In 2018, Ann Smith decided to bring together, within a company, artists sharing her values and interests in the field of visual art. Aartdvart was born. It brings together artists with a fantastic approach; who reclaim the codes from popular media: comics, advertisements, graffiti, cult objects, children's toys, cartoons, subculture, cinema, literature, music, etc. A style that does not immediately belong to the world of fine arts, museums and traditional galleries - in all facets: process, sales, events. The artists challenge and break the lines of the art market.
The works that make up the iconography of the artists can easily be understood and accessible to everyone for a reasonable interpretation. It is not excluded to refer to classic culture (Joyce, André Mathieu ...) but tradition, the artists create objects that speak of their vision of the world in a language that is both unique and documented.
Also, at Aartdvart, we are imbued with subversive and anti-social aspects, all sprinkled with North American humor. A rebellious spirit which is mainly intended to be a recurrent diversion from the models of American society, known icons, classic values and ideals of fashion and aesthetics, accepted currents. The artists denounce!
Kog defines himself as the Christ of art. His approach consists in acquiring works produced by ordinary people, which he buys in flea markets; garage sales. Works by neophytes, amateurs; unfinished, dilapidated ... in short, considered "dead" or "lepers" - because of their ugliness. Then, begins a creative process from a collage. A technique that has a name: to kog!
The Alicia Burton label is a combination of artists, of which Ann Smith is the heart. Overall, it's an artistic experience. The creative processes are different from one work to another; from one artist to another. It can be simply the “exquisite corpse” method or it can be the act of painting simultaneously (in collaboration, in all complicity).
Following a BAC in literature and an interest marked by the psychology of creativity, Ann launched into visual art. We don't live on art; we live for art. Freedom to act, to create simply without looking for recipes that will appeal to gallery owners, at the market. A socially committed woman, her approach is multidisciplinary. Works, performances, artistic projects ... often carried out anonymously, ephemeral.
Stacie is an artist who denounces the stereotypes and injustices experienced by women. Provocative, irreverent, vulgar? This is not the objective of his approach, which is rather qualified as “reflective”. His works, generally of large format, are rich in colors and symbolic elements; immerse the viewer in a story; a fantastic world.
